ALAS welcomes the scientific opinion of ECHA which rules out the health risks of glyphosate
Member organizations of ALAS, Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture (ASAJA and UPA, Agro-food Cooperatives of Spain, the Spanish Federation of Associations of Producers Exporters of Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers and Living Plants (FEPEX) and the Spanish Association of Conservation / Soils (AEAC / SV)) have celebrated the scientific opinion of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) according to which "the scientific evidence available does not permit the classification of glyphosate as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction".
Idai Nature Chair’s bid for biopesticides as a more sustainable alternative to chemists
The Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), through its Higher Technical School of Agricultural Engineers, and the company Idai Nature have organized a conference on the present and future of biopesticides in agriculture, framed in its Chair of Bioinsecticides. With this initiative, both institutions seek to encourage "biopesticides to be an effective and natural alternative to chemical methods".
Cuna de Platero initiates the sustainable cultivation of strawberry in Ávila to be able to serve berries all the year
The Moguereña Cuna de Platero cooperative has started sustainable strawberry cultivation in Avila in order to offer a constant supply of berries throughout the year, as it will be able to have fresh strawberries from June to October, developing its concept "Your Global Berry Partner" . The company has five hectares of cultivation in Castilla y León in which it applies the same sustainability criteria as in Huelva.
El Salvador: IICA collaborates with the Ministry of Agriculture to revive coffee cultivation
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of El Salvador and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) have signed an agreement to revive coffee cultivation in this country. This agreement, signed by IICA Director General Víctor M. Villalobos and the Minister of Agriculture of Livestock and President of the National Center for Agricultural and Forestry Technology (CENTA), Orestes Ortez, will serve to strengthen and improve the sustainability and competitiveness of the coffee chain.
Spain: EC approves additional quota for the withdrawal of 3,015 tonnes of fruit and vegetables
As part of the exceptional measures against the Russian veto, the European Commission has granted Spain an additional quota for the withdrawal of 3,015 tonnes of fruit and vegetables by publishing a resolution in the Official Journal of the EU (DOUE) of March 4th. This measure responds to a request from Spain, which requested the reallocation of the 18,000 tonnes that were not used by other Member States. Following the reallocation of the additional quotas, Spain remains the second beneficiary Member State of aid to producers, behind Poland.
Decco positions itself strongly in Latin America
Latin America is one of the regions where Decco has grown exponentially in recent years. Recently it has inaugurated a new factory in Brazil, and in Chile the growth is being forceful thanks to the expansion of its portfolio. In Mexico, the company already supplies its products to all the main crops, as in Argentina.
UPA asks Tejerina to defend the beet producers of Montoro’s tax collection
The Union of Small Farmers and Ranchers (UPA) has accused the Ministry of Finance and Public Service of proposing a tax on sugar with a desire to collect and without "minimally analyze" the impact that this tax will on the economy of the primary sector. For that reason, it has asked the Minister of Agriculture, Isabel García Tejerina, to "act with forcefulness" and intercede to defend the interests of the 6,000 beet Spanish producers of this "direct attack" by Minister Montoro.
UPA warns that CETA will hurt the interests of the European agri-food sector
The Union of Small Farmers and Ranchers (UPA) has warned that the free trade agreement with Canada, recently approved by the European Parliament, will harm the interests of many people and sectors, benefiting only the large multinationals. For this organization, CETA is postulated as a new "unfair agreement" in which European society -and especially the primary sector - "will not make anything clear and will appear new competitors that will hinder their survival".
Tejerina announces the celebration in Madrid of a conference on the CAP, which will be attended by Phil Hogan
During the opening ceremony of the 5th edition of the "Agraria" fair in Valladolid, on February 8th, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment, Isabel García Tejerina, announced the celebration in Madrid on 27th and 28th March, a conference on the CAP, which will be attended by EU Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan. In that line, García Tejerina has assured that the Government is already working to "achieve a strong CAP, well endowed economically and adapted to our needs".
Aguilera calls for a CAP wich solves the deregulation of the European agri-food sector
Socialist MEP and Vice-President of the European Parliament's Agriculture Committee, Clara Aguilera, has called for a reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to end one of the main problems of the European agri-food sector, deregulation, in the course of a day celebrated the 3th of February in the Valencian Association of Farmers (AVA-ASAJA).
