Spain: the pressure of the dairy industry threatens the existence of 25% of dairy sheep farms
25% of the Spanish farms of sheep of milk could close in 2018, due to the strong pressures that big dairy industries are transferring to the farmers. Both the prices that these companies are offering to the producers, and the conditions of the contracts put, as denounced by the agrarian organization UPA, in "serious risk of disappearance" to many farms.
The Andalusian cooperatives warn of the tight availability of oil for this campaign
In its last Sectorial Council of Olive Oil, held in Jaén, Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de Andalucía has warned of the tight availability of oil that will be available to supply the market, given the good commercialization index of the 2016-17 season and, above all, considering the important productive decline that is expected in the current one. A decrease due to the persistent drought suffered by the field and that is affecting the olive trees, which are already dragging a water deficit of several years. All this would lead to a disastrous 2018/19 campaign, taking into account that 70% of the Andalusian olive grove is rainfed.
EU: the agreement with Mercosur would cause losses in livestock of 2,700 million per year
The free trade agreement between the EU-Mercosur, which is currently immersed in the sixth round of negotiations, would have a very negative impact on 20% of our final livestock production, causing losses of 2,700 million euros per year. AVA-ASAJA estimates damages in the persimmon amounting to € 10M, after the last frosts
The frosts of the past 4th and 5th of December have caused damages in the cultivation of the persimmon that, according to the first estimations of the Valencian Association of Farmers (AVA-ASAJA), ascend to the 10 million euros. From the agrarian union, a message of tranquility is sent when emphasizing that the greater part of the surface of the cultivation is insured, reason why the producers will be compensated.
