HORTIESPAÑA prepares a program to promote greenhouse fruit and vegetable production in Europe
The Interprofessional Organization of Fruit and Vegetables of Spain HORTIESPAÑA, wants to continue with its work of defense of the greenhouse and make the jump to the European market to continue promoting and putting in value this system of culture, changing the negative image and the erroneous beliefs that have been settled in the minds of European consumers about winter products.
Syngenta reinforces its presence in Fruit Attraction, to celebrate its 150th anniversary in the sector of horticultural seeds
Syngenta will be present in a very special way in the IX edition of Fruit Attraction, held at the Ifema in Madrid from 18th to 20th October, as in 2017 marks the 150th Anniversary of the company within the sector producing horticultural seeds. Thus, the company strengthens its presence in the fair with two stands, one in hall 5 (stand 5D05) with all the innovations facing the sector and another in pavilion 9 (stand 9A01E) dedicated to its well-known Kumato® tomato.
HORTISPAÑA urges normality in Catalonia to avoid further damage to the Spanish horticultural sector in the markets
The Member Associations of the Spanish Interprofessional Organization of Fruits and Vegetables, HORTIESPAÑA, consider it essential that normality be restored as soon as possible in Catalonia so that the sector under Spanish greenhouse does not continue to be affected by the independence movement, which has already caused delays in shipments, breaches with customers and an important 'damage' to the image of Spain as the origin of horticultural products under greenhouse coverage of this Organization.
The Board promotes the Water Table of Almeria, with the incorporation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment
The Junta de Andalucía has decided to promote the Almeria Water Board, with the incorporation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development and Environment and Spatial Planning. This has been reported by the new Agriculture Minister, Rodrigo Sánchez Haro, in his recent visit to the province to meet with representatives of the horticultural sector. An opportunity that has taken advantage of to advance the commissioning of said Bureau, in the second half of next July. In this way, and as highlighted by Sánchez Haro, the Andalusian Government reinforces its commitment to direct dialogue with the agricultural sector in Almeria, in order to address the challenges posed by a policy for the use of water resources in its production area.
Prices of melon and watermelon are down 60% and 10%, respectively, compared to last season
The Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producers' Organizations of Almería (COEXPHAL) has described as "very bad" the current melon and watermelon campaign, given that farmers who have opted for these fruits typical of the Almeria spring season are enduring its sale at prices below the threshold of profitability. All this translates into a little viable campaign in which, in the case of melon, the average contribution to date is 60% below the average of last year. As for watermelon, their prices have fallen 10% compared to the previous season.
The commitment to sustainability stars the second edition of the Infoagro Exhibition
The second edition of the fair dedicated to intensive horticultural production, Infoagro Exhibition, has been characterized by the role of sustainable production methods, as it was highlighted during its inauguration by the Secretary of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries And Rural Development (CAPDER) of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Rafael Peral. Thus, Peral has valued among the novelties of this year the identification of organic producers under the VíaECO indicator, which gives them greater visibility in this event.
The second edition of the Infoagro exhibition will focus on business meetings at all levels
The second edition of Infoagro Exhibition, to be held on 10th, 11th and 12th May in Almeria, will prioritize the holding of business meetings between national and international companies, through the Agrotrading Forum, organized in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Almería, the Chamber of Commerce of Spain and the European Union. An initiative aimed at this agricultural show is erected in "Business Epicenter of the agricultural producer".
Biological control promotes declining use of pesticides in the last 50 years
The progressive introduction of methods of control or biological protection of crops has contributed to a significant decline in the use of pesticides and other chemical agents in agriculture, which has decreased worldwide by 50 to 90 percent in the last fifty years.

Infoagro Exhibition. Aguadulce (Almería)
