The apple and pear of Catalonia surpass the quotations of the past campaign, by the descent of production in Europe
The selling prices of the apple and pear are above the prices of last season, due to the productive decline experienced by pip fruit throughout Europe during the current season. Despite the optimistic figures and the correct valuation of the campaign, the Managing Director of Afrucat, Manel Simon, affirms that "we must not get distracted and trust, but we must maintain this fluidity of sales to eliminate camera stocks" .
IGP Poma de Girona promotes its market expansion strategy in Berlin
With the aim of consolidating its expansion into new markets, the PGI Poma de Girona has participated in the Fruit Logistica fair in Berlin. Thus, of the 80,000 tons of apples covered under this designation of quality, it is exported each year between 25% and 30%. Among the new markets of this product Girona include Israel, Sri Lanka, Canada, Gulf countries and Latin America, where by the fact of being in the southern hemisphere, the apple season starts six months apart.

The company Giropoma Costa Brava S.L. has accounted for this season an apple production protected by the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Manzana de Girona near 30,000 tons, and will be kept entirely in the facilities that this company has in Ullà (Girona). The varieties that are being collected and which are included in the IGP are Royal Gala, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and Granny Smith. Fuji will be the next variety in being recolected and the harvest will finish with the Cripps Pink variety, which is marketed under the Pink Lady brand.
