    • IICA and Finland promote the use of renewable energy among farmers in the Andean region

    More than 12,000 rural men and women in the Andean region (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru) have replaced traditional energy use with renewable energy, thanks to the Energy and Environment Partnership with the Andean Region (AEA), developed by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland (MAEF).

    El Salvador: IICA collaborates with the Ministry of Agriculture to revive coffee cultivation

    The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of El Salvador and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) have signed an agreement to revive coffee cultivation in this country. This agreement, signed by IICA Director General Víctor M. Villalobos and the Minister of Agriculture of Livestock and President of the National Center for Agricultural and Forestry Technology (CENTA), Orestes Ortez, will serve to strengthen and improve the sustainability and competitiveness of the coffee chain.

    Strawberry producers from Spain, France and Italy augur a production like the one of 2016 and of better quality

    During the last meeting held in Agen (France) by the Spanish-French-Italian Strawberry Contact Group, composed of representatives of the French and Italian producers as well as of Spain grouped together in the Association of Strawberry Producers and Exporters from Huelva( FRESHUELVA), integrated in FEPEX, have analyzed the forecasts for the current campaign, predicting a production similar to that of 2016, but of better quality. This contact has also served to further progress in phytosanitary matters.

    Spain: EC approves additional quota for the withdrawal of 3,015 tonnes of fruit and vegetables

    As part of the exceptional measures against the Russian veto, the European Commission has granted Spain an additional quota for the withdrawal of 3,015 tonnes of fruit and vegetables by publishing a resolution in the Official Journal of the EU (DOUE) of March 4th. This measure responds to a request from Spain, which requested the reallocation of the 18,000 tonnes that were not used by other Member States. Following the reallocation of the additional quotas, Spain remains the second beneficiary Member State of aid to producers, behind Poland.

    The value of horticultural exports in 2016 exceeds for the first time 12,000M€

    The value of Spanish exports of fresh fruit and vegetables in 2016 increased 5% compared to 2015, surpassing for the first time 12,000 million euros, according to data published this week by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness and processed by FEPEX, for which this figure "shows the positive evolution of the sector". In contrast, the volume of exports of Spanish fresh fruit and vegetables fell by 2%, with a total of 12.5 million tonnes.
