Climate change poses a new management of Segre basin for irrigation and human consumption
The Institute of Food Research and Technology (IRTA), a public company of the Catalan Generalitat, has participated in a study that analyzed the effects of reservoirs in the basin of the river Segre. Among its main findings it highlighted how necessary to propose new strategies of consumption and water management, since the current climate change scenario becomes increasingly difficult or impossible to meet the demands of water for irrigation and mouth using the current model, and practically unfeasible to develope projects to transfer water from the Ebro basin to other regions of southeastern Spain.

EC allocates 500 million euros to support measures for the dairy sector
The European Commission has adopted a third package of measures to support the dairy sector, worth 500 million euros, in the Council of Agriculture Ministers held on July 18th, which, as stressed the Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Isabel García Tejerina, collects all the requests that Spain has been raised to Brussels in recent months, to alleviate the critical situation being experienced by farmers in dairy cattle.
Non-producing countries conducive to world consumption of olive oil exceeds 3 million tonnes
Olive oil is a product whose global consumption is expanding, as evidenced with forecasts for the 2015/2016 campaign, aimed at more than 3 million tons, representing a growth of 6% with respect to the above, according to the International Olive Oil Council (IOOC). Increase reflected mainly in non-producing countries, which exceed 25% of the total compared with 11% representing 15 years ago. The International Fair of Olive Oil (wooe, its acronym in English), which will host IFEMA Madrid on 29th and 30th March 2017, will be the ideal place to promote this excellent news for the sector forum.
AVA-ASAJA accuses mass distribution to sink the price of watermelon on the field
AVA-ASAJA has denounced the "virulent business strategy" that are carrying out the supermarket chains, consisting of supply of watermelon "to Busted prices", aiming not only to attract more customers using this fruit as a ruse, but also sink quotes watermelon on the field and reverse a trend that, for the first time in recent seasons, was tested positive for the farmer.
AVA-ASAJA warns of serious damage to the rice crop if the EU bans tricyclazole
The Valencian Farmers Association (AVA-ASAJA) has urged the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA) to firmly defend the maintenance of Tricyclazole, the most effective way to combat the fungus Pyricularia wreaking havoc in the paddies product and whose future will debate the EU shortly. The Valencian Association warns of serious harm if eventually it is decided to prohibit their use.
