The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA) has awarded the “Food Prize of Spain Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 2016-2017 campaign”, raising the one presented by the oil mill Venchipa S.L. Of Ácula (Granada) with a double recognition: the Special Food Prize of Spain and the award for the best Extra Virgin Olive Oil (AOVE), in the “Frutado Verde Amargo” modality. These awards aim to revalue the highest quality Spanish virgin olive oils and organoleptic properties and encourage producers to develop and market these oils.
The Director General of Rural Development and Forest Policy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, Esperanza Orellana has valued the importance of new information and communication technologies (Big Data) to contribute, through a more sustainable use of resources, to the rationalization of agricultural activity. Orellana, who made the remarks during the inaugural session of the conference held on March 29th by the Ministry to analyze current trends in the world of Big Data, said that policies to promote information and communication are crucial for agriculture.
One of the main conclusions of the Conference “Building the post 2020 CAP”, held on 27th and 28th March by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA), is the need for the Common Agricultural Policy has a strong financial framework that allows meeting the demands of society and market challenges. A message in which the minister, Isabel García Tejerina, fully agrees, for whom, “otherwise it would be very difficult to achieve the objectives that are intended to be achieved”.
Banco Santander and Azucarera, the leading sugar producer in Spain, signed a collaboration agreement on 28th March, which will offer preferential financing conditions to beet growers contracted with this company, both in terms of short-term financing, through the advance of the harvest, and in medium and long-term financing, through the EIB Agro line, which allows the financing of farms up to 100% of the investments they make to improve their productivity, with from 5 to 12 years and with flexible quotas.
The Abadía Retuerta farm, located in the Valladolid municipality of Sardón del Duero, practices environmentally friendly agriculture and recovers biodiversity in the margins of its vineyards, through Operation Pollinator, an international program implemented by Syngenta with the collaboration of different scientific organizations in Spain, whose objective is the establishment of specific habitats for pollinating insects in the margins of the crops, which allow the creation of natural refuges for pollinators and encourage the presence of other arthropods useful as predators and parasitoids.
