The healthy character of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) and its versatility in international kitchens will be the protagonists of the Gourmet Area at the World Olive Oil Exhibition, the largest monographic meeting dedicated to olive oil, which will celebrate its seventh edition on the 21st and March 22nd at IFEMA-Madrid. Chef Kike Piñeiro has devised a menu to explore different cuisines of the world and demonstrate the versatility of this emblematic product of Spanish cuisine. Through breakfast, appetizer, lunch and dinner, they will show how healthy it is to have this ingredient at any time of the day.
Spain: official estimates of olive production are fulfilled, with more than 1Mt at the end of January
The official estimates of olive production for the 2017/18 season are fulfilled, with a production of almost 1,050,000 tons at the end of January, according to the new olive oil market bulletin published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment. During the month of January, the provisional figures also show an improvement in the exits in the domestic market and in the export with respect to the previous month, with a total of 113,000 tons.

The Andalusian cooperatives warn of the tight availability of oil for this campaign
In its last Sectorial Council of Olive Oil, held in Jaén, Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de Andalucía has warned of the tight availability of oil that will be available to supply the market, given the good commercialization index of the 2016-17 season and, above all, considering the important productive decline that is expected in the current one. A decrease due to the persistent drought suffered by the field and that is affecting the olive trees, which are already dragging a water deficit of several years. All this would lead to a disastrous 2018/19 campaign, taking into account that 70% of the Andalusian olive grove is rainfed.
The president of Globalcaja advocates internationalization in the olive sector
The president of Globalcaja, Carlos de la Sierra, has urged oil companies to bet heavily on internationalization, on the occasion of his speech during the Gala of Olive Oils in Spain. The cooperatives estimate an oil production of 1,100,000tn
At its annual meeting of the Sectoral Council of Olive Oil, held on October 31th in Jaén, Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España has made an estimate of olive oil harvest, which will be over 1,096,900 tons, which means a decrease of 14.7% with respect to last season.

National olive production up to May exceeds the average of previous campaigns, with a total of 1,279,500 tonnes, according to data published by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA) in the Oil Market Bulletin of olive for the month of May. The Director General of Industries and Food Chain of the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development of the Junta de Andalucía, Rosa Ríos, has presented in Madrid the XVIII International Fair of Olive Oil and Related Industries, Expoliva, to be held in Jaén From 10th to 13th May. Ríos has referred to this event as "the most important in the world dedicated to olive oil, a space that generates business and commercial relations, national and international, and the most relevant technical forum in the world where we talk about the producing sector of oil and its related companies".

From May 10th to 13th, the Exhibition Center of the capital of Spain will host Expoliva 2017, the most important fair in the olive oil sector and its related industries. Expoliva is the only international fair in Andalusia and the only event of its characteristics in which are present each and every one of the production processes involved in obtaining "liquid gold".
