A delegation from the Government of Ecuador has moved to Almeria to learn first hand the Almerian agriculture model in order to implement a fruit and vegetable development project in their country. The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, Rodrigo Sánchez Haro, has received the Ecuadorian representatives of the initiative Agrovivienda Ecuador 2014-2020, which covers agricultural production with the provision of basic services, to encourage the creation of self-sufficient communities and the sustainable development of rural areas.
IICA and Finland promote the use of renewable energy among farmers in the Andean region
More than 12,000 rural men and women in the Andean region (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru) have replaced traditional energy use with renewable energy, thanks to the Energy and Environment Partnership with the Andean Region (AEA), developed by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland (MAEF).
‘QuinuArroz’ new strategy to encourage the consumption of quinoa in Ecuador
As part of the recent meeting in Quito by the new Andean Network of Quinoa Producers, Ecuador filed on July 13th strategies developed by its public company National Storage Unit to promote the consumption of quinoa in the country. These include the supply of 'QuinuArroz', a mix of cereals with nutritional properties, effectively contributing to nutrition and diet caloric.
Ecuador: The microalgae potential under study
The Energy Research Corporation of Ecuador is dedicated to deepen the benefits of microalgae, with help from the University of the Americas (UDLA). Currently they are investigating the functionality of microalgae as a potential source of clean, alternative energy. The researchers aim to discover new applications future, not only of microalgae, but other plants that improve the quality of life of people.
Ecuador: European Parliament approves the accession to the Multiparty Trade Agreement
By an overwhelming majority of 499 votes in favor, the European Parliament approved the Resolution November 26 Accession of Ecuador to the Multiparty Trade Agreement (ACM) that integrate Peru and Colombia with the European Union. This approval is an important step and a positive signal from the European Parliament, which also paves the way for when the legislature to decide on the contents of the Protocol on the Accession of Ecuador to ACM in the course of 2016.
Ecuador: Brussels provides a stabilization mechanism for bananas in this country
European Trade Commissioner, Cecilia Malmström, said that the EU executive expected to establish a "stabilization mechanism" for trade in bananas for the accession of Ecuador to the trade agreement with the European Union Colombia and Peru.
