AVA-ASAJA estimates damages in the persimmon amounting to € 10M, after the last frosts
The frosts of the past 4th and 5th of December have caused damages in the cultivation of the persimmon that, according to the first estimations of the Valencian Association of Farmers (AVA-ASAJA), ascend to the 10 million euros. From the agrarian union, a message of tranquility is sent when emphasizing that the greater part of the surface of the cultivation is insured, reason why the producers will be compensated.
UPA urges the Government to take urgent measures against a “historic” drought
The Union of Small Farmers (UPA) has urged the Government of Spain to adopt urgent measures against a drought that qualifies as "historic". The shortage of rains since last autumn has led our country to an emergency situation that however, as denounced by the UPA agrarian organization, is "ignored" by the Government. Farmers and ranchers say they feel "abandoned and surprised" in the absence of a management plan for a crisis of great gravity.
The MAPAMA increases up to 200M€ supports drought
The Ministry of agriculture and fisheries, food and environment (MAPAMA) will increase to 200 million euros credit funded owners of farms affected by the drought, as set out in the Ministerial order issued on August 1st in the official State Bulletin (BOE). Such aid, which will help alleviate the difficulties in the access to credit of these farms, will be managed through guarantees of the State Corporation Caución Agraria (SAECA).
The Government of Aragon enables up to 50M € to mitigate drought damage
The Department of Rural Development and Sustainability of the Government of Aragon will support the creation of a specific line of loan of up to 50 million euros for farmers and ranchers affected by the drought that need to resort to financing their expenses. The aid will consist of financing the interest to which the banks perform these operations trying to get as close as possible to zero.
Fecoam calls for a national water pact to respond to water scarcity in its region
The president of the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of the Region of Murcia (Fecoam), Santiago Martínez, has highlighted how the solution to the water shortage that is suffering his region "must be sought in a national water pact that includes all the needs, both of the infrastructures of some areas and the water resources for others". Martínez, who warned of this endemic problem of lack of water, taking advantage of the celebration of the XXXII Assembly of his Federation, has insisted that "the available water of the transfer is very scarce", to which the situation of the aquifers is added, "that in a few years will not be able to be used, reason why it is urgent to face the substitution of flows".
Banco Sabadell offers La Mancha’s agro-food cooperatives a financing line for projects in its sector
Banco Sabadell and Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias Castilla-La Mancha have signed a collaboration agreement, in force since April 7th, whereby the bank makes available to the organization a catalog of products and services to support its financial needs. In that catalog, there is a line of financing that Banco Sabadell has agreed with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to promote the development of projects carried out by companies and self-employed in the agro-food sector.
Santander provides Azucarera with a preferential financing agreement for its farmers
Banco Santander and Azucarera, the leading sugar producer in Spain, signed a collaboration agreement on 28th March, which will offer preferential financing conditions to beet growers contracted with this company, both in terms of short-term financing, through the advance of the harvest, and in medium and long-term financing, through the EIB Agro line, which allows the financing of farms up to 100% of the investments they make to improve their productivity, with from 5 to 12 years and with flexible quotas.
