Costa Rica: a computing platform serving agricultural productivity
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Telecommunications of Costa Rica will invest ₡ 50 million in the creation of a National Agricultural Information System, serving producers and market Chorotega, which will help to improve productivity in the aquaculture agriculture, fisheries and of that region. The Trelleborg Group increases its dimension with CGS Holding

Colombia prioritizes rural development to reduce poverty and inequality
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Colombia Development (MINAGRICULTURA) prioritizes five public policies to boost development in rural areas, through a new work plan to be developed jointly with the Agricultural Society of Colombia (SAC) and which aims to increase the incomes of farmers and reduce poverty in the countryside.
Spain, international leader in water savings
Spain is international leader in saving water as a result of having got the transformation of traditional irrigation systems in surface drip systems in more than 49% of the irrigated zones, such as has reported the National Federation of Communities Irrigators (FENACORE) on the occasion of the celebration of World Environment Day on June 5. This process of modernization of irrigation has been being driven by irrigators in collaboration with public administrations, and currently results in a reduction of almost 14% in average annual savings of irrigation water, turning a total consumption nearly 17,000 cubic hectometres into about 14,500 cubic hectometres presently, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE) data, collected by the Federation.
Peru exports fresh asparagus and blueberries to the US without fumigation requirement
From May 10th, 2016, Peru can now exports to the United States asparagus and fresh blueberries without the requirement fumigation required for these crops, as a result of the meetings held by the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of Peru, Juan Manuel Benites with undersecretary of Agriculture of this country, Ed Avalos. A quality brand for garlic from Córdoba
The garlic sector from Campiña Sur, in Córdoba, has set a target of achieving a quality brand that differentiates and distinguishes their productions. Thus, during a meeting a few days ago with the Territorial Delegate of Agriculture of the Government of Andalusia, Francisco Zurera, their representatives agreed to start the process for requesting a quality brand that is applicable to this product, namely the Geographical Indication (PGI), which in Spain has only the purple garlic from Pedroñeras (Cuenca). At the meeting also participated Miguel Ruz, mayor of Montalban, a town that traditionally is being associated with its production of garlic, recognized for its high quality.
Central America expects the impact of “La Niña” in their fields
"La Niña" is associated with heavy rains and floods, which would generate serious implications for the agricultural sector in the region. At a seminar led by IICA the impact it could have this phenomenon in the sector, which would manifest itself early in the second half of this year were discussed.
