The Government clarifies the use of inorganic waste in the current regulation on fertilizers
The Spanish Government has updated and clarified the regulation on fertilizers, following the recent approval by the Council of Ministers of a modification of the Royal Decree on this class of products. A standard that establishes the requirements for its elaboration and placing in the national market, regulating, among other aspects, the use of the raw materials that can be used in its manufacture.
Thus, the modification introduced, clarifies the conditions of use of certain inorganic residues as raw materials. The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA) has considered it appropriate to modify and update this aspect, based on existing experience to regulate the use of biodegradable waste in the production of fertilizer products of organic origin.
The approved Royal Decree maintains the need to have the corresponding authorization from the environmental authority, and includes a transitional provision regulating temporarily the placing on the market of fertilizers in which the waste object of this modification has been used.
