Spain imported 2% less fruits and vegetables until October
The Spanish import of fruits and vegetables stood at 2.6 million tons and 2,401 million euros until October 2019, which represents a 2% decrease in volume and a 5% increase in value compared to the same months from the previous year, according to the latest data updated by the General Directorate of Customs.
The import of vegetables in the first ten months of the year has stood at 1.1 million tons (+ 0.5%) and 741 million euros (+ 22%), with the potato being the most imported with 654,528 tons, the same amount as in 2018 and 235 million euros (+ 63%). The import of tomato also stands out, with 132,270 tons (+ 5%) and 122 million euros (+ 24.5%) and beans with 94,764 tons (-10%) and 123 million euros (-5%).
Fruit imports until the month of October decreased by 4% in volume in relation to the same months of 2018, totaling 1.4 million tons, with the same value as the previous year, 1,659 million euros, with banana being the most imported fruit with 297,080 tons (-1%) worth 162 million euros (+ 2%). The pineapple imports also stand out with 137,385 tons (-1.6%), avocado with 116,175 tons, the same amount as in 2018 or the kiwi with 119,669 tons (-20%).
For FEPEX, the data up to October reflect the positive trend of imports, especially in value, showing the good performance of average prices, which increased by 8% in the analyzed period.
