Peru: Pro Olivo takes its achievements in technological innovation to the II Regional Forum of Economic Development
The Pro Olivo Association has shared in the II Regional Forum of Economic Development for Latin America and the Caribbean its successful experience with the Tenological Innovation Agenda for the technical and commercial development of the olive tree in the Tacna Region in Peru. Represented by its president, Luciana Biondi, Pro Olivo was selected by the international consultancy GIZ Peru to represent Peru in this representative forum, held at the end of June, in the Bolivian city of Tiquipaya.
The president of Pro Olivo presented the unique case of success in public-private coordination for the technical and commercial development of table olives and olive oil and its derivatives in the Tacna region, an activity on which more than 4,000 families of farmers depend. Thus, Biondi presented to the attendees to this event the mentioned tool of innovation, through his presentation “Platform of public-private coordination: Technological Innovation Agenda for the technical and commercial development of the olive tree in the Tacna Region, Peru. An instrument whose implementation has involved all the actors in the olive value chain and which has been financed with non-reimbursable resources by the National Innovation Program for Competitiveness and Productivity – INNOVATE PERÚ.
As explained by the president of Pro Olivo, this successful experience of the Peruvian olive and olive oil producers of Tacna will serve together with those of other countries to exchange management tools, as well as define a concerted position of representatives and local leaders Latin America and the Caribbean for the Fourth World Forum on Local Economic Development to be held in Cape Verde from October 17 to 20, 2017.
The Regional Forums, inaugurated in 2015 in the city of Quito (Ecuador), are part of the preparatory meetings for the World Forums of Local Economic Development, organized every two years in different regions of the world, which allow the development of a preliminary reflection focused on the issues, problems and opportunities of local economic development at the regional level and the achievement of a common position of representatives and local leaders of the region of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
