Mexico opens its borders to the Spanish pork
The Spanish meat industry has valued the opening of the Mexican market to its production of pigmeat, as manifested from the Office of Export Meat Spain (OEEC). Spain thus becomes the first country in the European Union authorized to export pig meat to Mexico.
This achievement has materialized after long negotiation process conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA) and the Ministry of Commerce with the health authorities of this country.
Mexico already receives processed meat products from Spain, the main non-EU market for Spanish export industries, with growth of 30% in the value of those in 2015 over the previous year. However, until now it had been closed to fresh pigmeat.
Capitalizing on a visit of inspection carried out last November to authorize new meat industry for Mexico, the MAGRAMA got that a group of Spanish slaughterhouses were also visited. After this visit, these facilities have been authorized to export beef to the Mexican market with the possibility to open new authorizations for Spanish companies that may be visited.
As a result of all these efforts, the meat industry welcomes this achievement of the Spanish Administration (MAGRAMA, Trade and Economic and Commercial Office of Spain in Mexico), as this country is emerging as one of the major importers of these meats for the next decade.
