UPA presents to the Ministry its project to adapt the agricultural sector to climate change
Climate change is the main challenge facing the agricultural sector today. In the agrarian organization UPA are aware of this and that is why they are focusing all their efforts on helping farmers and ranchers to adapt their farms to this new situation and thus reduce their impact on the sector. These efforts are being channeled into a macroproject called InfoAdaptaAgri that will be presented to the Minister of Agriculture, Isabel García Tejerina, on June 6th. The act will be open to all interested persons, it is simply necessary to send an inscription in advance.
Increase in temperatures, less water availability, increase in extreme weather events and spread of pests and diseases. This is not the scenario of a futuristic fear film but the current problems that farmers and ranchers are already facing due to climate change. The Union of Small Farmers and Cattle Ranchers, UPA, is clear that to reduce its negative impact on the sector “the most important thing is not to ignore the new situation and adapt to it”. To do this, the agrarian organization is developing InfoAdaptaAgri, a macroproject that addresses the problem in an integral way with the ultimate goal of farmers and ranchers adapting their farms to the new climatic scenario.
InfoAdaptaAgri is, in addition to research, dissemination and education on the problem of climate change. The set of initiatives that make up the program, supported by the Biodiversity Foundation, are reaping great success. Therefore, InfoAdaptaAgri will be presented to the Minister of Agriculture, Isabel García Tejerina, next Wednesday June 6 in the assembly hall of the Ministry of Agriculture (located on the Paseo de la Infanta Isabel).
Along with the intervention of Minister Tejerina and that of different experts, six farmers and ranchers from different parts of Spain and with different productive orientations will participate in the event. These professionals will present their experiences and present first-hand the concrete measures disseminated by InfoAdaptaAgri and that they are already applying to their farms. The event will be open to all those who are interested in attending. It will simply be necessary to register, free of charge, in the online form that UPA has enabled for it.
