The Fair of Montoro last the preparations for its celebration
The Olive Fair finalizes the preparations for its celebration highlighting a strong international character in its 19th edition. Just two days after its inauguration, the Diputación de Córdoba has hosted the official presentation of this biennial event at a press conference in which it praises Montoro as a world meeting point for professionals in the olive oil and olive oil sector.
The event, which will be held from May 16 to 19, is organized by the Consortium of the Olive Fair and the municipality of Montoro, is driven by the Spanish Association of Municipalities of Olivo (AEMO) and Ilígora Cultural Recreation Club and has the institutional support of the Diputación de Córdoba, Junta de Andalucía, Olivarero Community Heritage Foundation, Sierra Morena Development Group, DO Montoro-Adamuz and of all those who in different ways mobilize economic initiatives of social interest, promote contacts and commercial exchanges. All this, with the objective of revaluing the olive grove, as a cultural, historical and labor axis, as well as trying to promote and increase the consumption of olive oil.
In addition, another of the objectives of this fair is to bet on quality and educate consumers so that they can appreciate the quality of extra virgin olive oil, also promoting the distribution and marketing of oils, encouraging attractive marketing strategies.
This has been highlighted by the delegate of Economic Development of the Diputación de Córdoba, Ana Carrillo, who explained that “this new edition of the Olivo de Montoro Fair is one of the most important in the sector in Andalusia. Córdoba is a province mainly olive grove that has the EVOO as the main agri-food product, with four Denominations of Origin and this being one of the main engines of economic development, so that from the institutions we have to continue taking care of it ».
In addition, Carrillo explained that “we are aware of economic development, but we must continue to bet on increasing a quality product such as olive oil. We work permanently to promote wealth, so that Montoro and its Fair are a reference for the sector. This Fair is an important meeting point for professionals of the olive sector, a magnificent showcase for the dissemination of the latest technological and scientific innovations in the sector, thus providing the opportunity to establish solid business relationships, exchange of information and analysis of current tren¨.
For his part, Francisco Zurera, territorial delegate of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development of the Junta de Andalucía, explained that “the Fair is more than Cordoba. The olive sector has a great strength in the province with a notorious importance that becomes innovation, marketing and internationalization projects, hence more olive oil and higher quality is produced”.
Zurera added that “we have 352,000 hectares of olive groves, of which 104,000 are located on soils with slopes greater than twenty percent. Córdoba shows a clear specialization in the organic olive grove with 25,604 hectares, 41,000 olive groves, with between four and five million daily wages, with one hundred and eighty-four mills and four Denominations of Origin. ”
On the other hand, Manuel Carmona, territorial delegate of Economy, Innovation, Science and Employment of the Junta de Andalucía, has argued that “the olive sector is a sector in which the auxiliary industry collects those determinant and strategic attributes such as specialization, technological innovation and internationalization ».
In this sense, the Extenda Agency joins the common objective of the Olive Fair, empowering operators from different countries to meet and bring importers, retailers, distributors or prescribers who meet with Andalusian producers and companies knowing their offer and opportunities can be undertaken. of business thanks to the XII International meeting of the auxiliary olive industry to be held at the Fair on May 16 and 17.
For its part, the mayor of Montoro and president of AEMO, Ana Maria Romero, stressed that “the Fair today gives its kick-off in an international edition with more than a hundred stands from ten autonomous communities and seven countries (Germany, France, Italy, Algeria, Sweden, Morocco and Turkey), where commercial missions abroad will be promoted through Extenda ».
Romero has taken a tour of the activities and events of the fair, including the 2nd Extra Virgin Olive Oil Show with the sample and tasting of the Top 100 Evooleum 2018. The finalists of the Awards will also be present Olive Fair 2018, oils of the different Andalusian PDO. From Thursday 17, the Technical Days will take place in the Hall of Acts of the Communal Heritage Olivarero. A series of papers where the study, analysis and reflection is invited until Saturday, May 19, where an important training agenda will be given with relevant topics such as the search for a dignified income for the olive grove, the mechanization of the traditional olive grove or the self-regulation of the sector, among others.
Issues will be addressed, among others, such as the optimal management of water resources in the olive grove, management and production of intensive olive varieties and hedges, new varieties for high density, key to obtaining premium olive oils. In addition, the Mecaolivar project will be covered, a research initiative supported by the University of Córdoba that focuses on the advance of prototypes that improve the technification and economic profitability of the olive grove. Likewise, a colloquium on the costs of cultivation in Traditional Systems will be developed in comparison with the High Density and topics will be treated by experts such as internationalization and research in the olive / olive oil sector; Current lines of essential reflection and analysis in these Days.
In addition, various national competitions such as the Quality of Oil, Poetry, Innovation and Photography – the latter as a novelty of the 19th edition – will be held. In the same way, the act of delivery of the ‘XII International Oil Contest’ Harmony ‘will take place. Likewise, the gala ‘I Award GEA-AEMO to promote the consumption of olive oil in the world. Signing of the Iprodeco-Feria del Olivo agreement
After the press conference, the president of the Provincial Institute of Economic Development (Iprodeco), Ana Carrillo and the president of the Consortium of the Olivo Fair and mayor of Montoro, Ana María Romero, have signed a collaboration agreement with an economic amount of 35,000 euros for the promotion and development of activities within the Olive Fair. All this, with the aim of promoting the economic development of the province and the productive sectors that are the driving force of it.
