Ecuador and Spain cooperate in aquaculture and fisheries

Strengthen ties of mutual cooperation to promote the development and improvement of aquaculture-fisheries sector was the purpose of the meeting between officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (MAGAP), the National Fisheries Institute (INP), and representatives of the National Association of Manufacturers of Canned Fish and Shellfish (ANFACO-CECOPESCA) of Spain.

Strengthen ties of mutual cooperation to promote the development and improvement of aquaculture-fisheries sector was the purpose of the meeting between officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (MAGAP), the National Fisheries Institute (INP), and representatives of the National Association of Manufacturers of Canned Fish and Shellfish (ANFACO-CECOPESCA) of Spain.

The dialogue consisted of Pilar Proaño, Deputy Minister of Aquaculture and Fisheries; Victor Alcivar, Subsecretary of Fisheries Resources; Edwin Moncayo, General Director of the INP; Juan M. Vietes, General Secretary of ANFACO; Monica Maldonado, Executive Director of the Ecuadorian Chamber of Industries and Processors Atuneros; Dora Suasnavas, legal adviser to the Vice Ministry; Sarah Maria Pincay, advisor to the INP, and among other industry representatives.

During the session the fields of common interest between institutions were identified. Juan M. Vietes stressed that support the INP in training and technical assistance, by signing an agreement in order to promote the exercise of competitiveness and compliance with established international requirements.

After the dialogue, the authorities toured the laboratories of Chemical and Microbiological Food Analysis INP and the Laboratory of Aquaculture Products Use (LAB-EPA) INP.
