Post-harvest citrus technology helps citrus exports from Egypt to China and Australia
The Citrus company specializing in post-harvest technology for citrus, Citrosol, has been contributing with its advice and advances in R & D & I to the fact that Egypt’s leading exporting companies are approaching markets in the Middle East and even in China and Australia. This was evidenced in the post-harvest technical seminar that Citrosol held in Cairo, in collaboration with the Agricultural Export Council (AEC) of Egypt.
In this event of professional character have participated almost a hundred operators and agents of the citrus sector. Through their papers, representatives of Citrosol have addressed topics related to treatments, hygiene and post-harvest innovations.
In the words of the director of International Operations of this company, Julio Marín, “Citrosol is the leader in Egypt, the main exporters have been working with us for years. We are increasingly valued for the added value we bring with our consulting, service, application equipment and premium quality products”. “Currently -he adds- Egyptian exporters need to make specific and varied treatments to conserve fruit for long periods of transport. With our recommendations we are helping them to reach Middle East countries without problems, and these, coupled with the use of our equipment and products, are vital to reaching countries like China or Australia with excellent results”.
The seminar has focused largely on export to distant markets, mainly to Asian countries such as China and Australia
In the lecture on treatments given by Juan Carlos Martín Loeches, agricultural engineer and commercial technician of Citrosol International, the post-harvest programs were described that allow exporters to send fruit in perfect condition. Along with export, the other major topic of discussion was the limitation of the use of active materials.
In this regard, Marín described the numerous Citrus solutions such as drencher treatments, automatic dosing systems and the Cero® Discharge System (which reduce variability in residues and results), Citrosol AS UE waxes that decrease Energy consumption and the emission of greenhouse gases; the tools for disinfection, where the Glocuat PC or Citroguanida LU stands out; or reduction of cold damage and staining with tools such as Fortisol®Ca and Fortisol® Ca PLUS.
“At Citrosol we work to give new solutions to the operators in the sector, who are increasingly demanding from the markets, end customers like the supermarket chains”, said Marín.
Disinfection programs
Jorge Bretó, a biologist and technical coordinator, gave an interesting presentation on hygiene and cleanliness, in which he presented Citrosol disinfection programs based on the use of Glocuat PC and Citroguanida LU with the X3 Nebulizer.
The cleaning and disinfection plan of Citrosol reduces the inoculum load in the horticultural plants and reduces both the risk of occurrence of resistance and the amount of fungal spores not controlled by the usual fungicides
In short, this technical seminar, according to Bretó explains, “has led to an enriching debate that has served to respond to issues of full relevance as the problems of rot, resistance, new destinations or limited use of active materials”.
