The European producers of banana defend the aid of all the primary sector of the ORs
The Association of European Producers of Banana and Banana (APEB), of which the Association of Organizations of Producers of Banana of the Canary Islands (ASPROCAN) is part, has made this week a series of meetings with the aim of specifying the new steps of the sector in the European Union.
The main meeting took place last Wednesday with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fernando Miranda and counted on the participation of the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Canary Islands Government, Abel Morales and the President and Vice President of the APEB, Laurent de Meillac and Domingo Martín Ortega, accompanied by the management of the organization and ASPROCAN. This meeting has been a significant step to finalize the celebration of the next Joint Community Banana Committee, which will be held on October 9 in Paris.
The Joint Community Banana Committee was established last January and brings together European banana producers and the various ministries involved in Spain, France and Portugal. Its main objective is to discuss the challenges of the community banana in Europe and serve as a tool to improve the conditions of the sector in these three countries.
For the next meeting, all the parties agreed to prioritize the demand for the support of the community budget for the Posei program for the primary sector.
Once this meeting was held, the management of ASPROCAN together with the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Government of the Canary Islands, held a meeting on Thursday with the General Directorate of Agricultural Production and Markets MAPAMA to address the second of the topics to be included in the next meeting of the Joint Committee; the mechanism for monitoring the banana market carried out by the banana sector in relation to the services of the European Commission. In this area, the need to advance in new tools that allow the Joint Committee to have detailed information on the importation of bananas from third countries to Spain and the importance that this has to reinforce the price surveillance mechanism and protect producers was reiterated. of Canarian banana.
