Agricultural production in Peru will grow in 2016

The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of Peru (MINAGRI) published its growth projections for 2016, namely 3.4%. The sectoral growth outlook for the end of 2015 is 2.8%, explained by the behavior of livestock production that reached 5.5% and agricultural subsector which reached 1.0%, according to official data.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of Peru (MINAGRI) published its growth projections for 2016, namely 3.4%. The sectoral growth outlook for the end of 2015 is 2.8%, explained by the behavior of livestock production that reached 5.5% and agricultural subsector which reached 1.0%, according to official data.

The projection suggests that about 126,610 new hectares of land would be incorporated into 17 regions, which means almost 10% more in relation to planting carried out in these regions and compared to the previous year which reached 1,348,605 hectares.

The products that would contribute to growth this 2016 are: paddy (8.7%), coffee (8.3%), asparagus (3.4%), hard yellow corn (2.3%), banana (4, 8%), grape (1.1%), cocoa (3.5%), avocado (2.6%) and tangerine (2.9%).
In the livestock and poultry subsector, products that help to increase production are: poultry (3.9%), beef (4.7%), pigs (1.4%), chicken egg (1 , 2%) and raw milk (1.9%).

In the case of agricultural exports, the outlook is also favorable, it is estimated that in 2016 would exceed USD 6,000 million, particularly for the shipment of non-traditional products. The value of these exports has been doubling thanks to the increasing opening of new international markets for Peruvian products.

Peru has established itself among the top 10 countries supplying food in the world with products such as asparagus, coffee, mango, maca, quinoa, olives, grapes, avocados, artichokes, dried peppers, beans, tangerine, ginger, beans, onions, fresh peas and cranberries recently, crops have enormous value in terms of their nutritional value and food safety.
