Pilot program to implement an electronic system that verifies the export of Chilean fruit to China
The China Entry & Exit Biosecurity Society (CBS) and the Association of Exporters of Chilean Fruit AG (ASOEX) have signed an agreement for the implementation of an Electronic Verification System for Chilean fruit exports to China. The purpose of this agreement is to ensure that fruits meet the quality and safety standards of both countries, as well as to make inspections more efficient at the ports of entry of the Chinese market.
The agreement will materialize through a pilot program, through which a group of Chilean fruit exporting companies will begin to implement a QR Code for verification and monitoring of national exports of fruits destined for China, during the year 2018
The agreement has been signed by Ronald Bown, President of ASOEX and Li Weimin, Secretary General of CBS, who was represented at the ceremony in Chile by Feng Chunguang, CBS Specialist Consultant.
Guaranteed traceability
According to Bown, the electronic verification system will offer an optional measure that would allow inspectors, in charge of the ports of entry in China, to scan the QR code on the labels of the fruit shipments and complete the verification in an accurate and automatic way. in relation to orchards and packers registered to export to China, allowing a follow-up on where the fruit was grown and where it was packed.

of inspection of our fruit in China, favoring with it a quicker arrival to the stores and tables of the consumers, and therefore in better conditions of freshness and quality“
It should be noted that this measure not only seeks to improve the tracking system of the fruit, but also to verify if the products were sent from orchards and packers duly registered or assigned according to the protocols and annexes signed by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) of China, and the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) of Chile. In this sense, the codes that will refer to vegetable gardens (CSG) and packers (CSP) will be marked on each package (package) by means of an electronically readable QR code, thus facilitating the task of local CIQ inspectors in China.
“This agreement and implementation of the QR Code on the fruit that Chile exports to China is unique, as it is the first we have subscribed of this type in the world. It is a milestone, but at the same time, it is due to the long work that we have developed with the government agencies of Chile and ASOEX. It is a system that will benefit both countries, on the one hand, fruit can enter more quickly, and on the other, our work will also be simplified”, said Feng Chunguang.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Undersecretary of Agriculture, Claudio Ternicier; the National Director of SAG, Ángel Sartori; the Agricultural Attaché of Chile in China, Carlos Parra, in addition to other national and Chinese authorities, as well as representatives of ASOEX.
“This type of agreement between a Chilean private body and a government agency of China, is undoubtedly a sign of the close work done by the Chilean public-private sector, as well as the seriousness of the Chilean fruit export industry,” Ternicier said,
For his part, the National Director of the SAG, said: “This system (QR Code) is unique in its kind, through the pilot we can go adjusting what needs to be adjusted, but without doubt it is positive to speed up our exports”.
