Peru and Andalusia, together by research in the world of olives
The UNIA and Jorge Basadre Grohmann National University of Peru made an international course of Technologies applied to the processing of table olives and olive oil production. Both universities have signed an agreement to collaborate in the organization of academic activities.
Universidad Internacional de Andalucía (UNIA) organized with the National University Jorge Basadre Grohmann (UNJBG) of Tacna in Peru, the international course Technologies applied to the processing of table olives and olive oil production, directed by John M. Knight Reig, the IFAPA, Centro Alameda of the Bishop of Córdoba, and coordinated by Florio Enrique Ramirez, of the School of Engineering in Food Industries (ESIA) of the National Jorge Basadre Grohmann of Tacna (Peru) and Yolanda Sosa University, the UNJBG .
The current technologies applied to the processing of table olives and olive oil production, which takes place from 12 to 16 October, has as main objective the specialized and technical training of undergraduate and graduate students on olive cultivation in particularly agricultural students, agricultural graduates, professionals and farmers regarding crop.
Antonio Jimenez involved as teachers, researcher at the Center Sale of Llano de Mengíbar, Jaén IFAPA; Antonio Higinio Sanchez, scientist at the Institute of Fat in Seville; Eloy Martin Casillas, professor of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences UNJBG; Lourdes Mariela Koc and Portugal, engineers PRO-OLIVE Peru; Liduvina Sulca, Marcial Castillo, Lourdes Gonzalez and Sonia Liliana Lanchipa Pomareda, the UNJBG, and Martha Gallegos, UPT engineer.
At the opening of the course, among others, the rector of the UNJBG, Miguel Angel Larrea Céspedes, the dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Valencia Quiterio Mecola, and the manager of the UNIA, Rafael Serrano have participated.
Indeed, the rector of the UNJBG and manager of the UNIA have signed a new agreement between the two universities to jointly promote the holding of academic and research activities and cooperation in technological, cultural development and social advancement.
Tacna is a region located in southern Peru, where the olive is cultivated from the 50 currently has 33,740 hectares of farmland, of which 16,000 correspond to olive; with production of 61.9 tons of olives and a yield of 7,530 kg / ha. It represents 74% of production in Peru, followed by Arequipa with 19%, and the rest of the country with 7%, which is divided between Lima, Ica, Moquegua and Freedom. Olive production is mainly engaged in exporting between 50 and 70%.
This course is the second performing both universities, and in 2014 organized the international course on olive growing: an arid zone in the southern region of Peru.
