Label Investments acquires Tropical Organic Growers,
Label Investments, the investment vehicle specialized in technology and the sector agrifood, created in 2018 by the former president of Planasa Alexandre Pierron Darbonne together with the CEO of the company Rolando Leyton have just closed the acquisition of Tropical Organic Growers.
Located in the state of Colima, one of the few places in the world suitable for development of organic banana production due to its dry subtropical climate in the shore of the Mexican Pacific, Tropical Organic Growers sells about 50,000 T of organic bananas mainly in the United States and Japan, and plans to double this volume in the next 5 years.
Tropical Organic Growers markets its own production that it develops in its fences of 550 Ha of own plantations, as well as that of associated producers carefully selected and supervised by a dedicated team that guarantees the strict compliance with the high quality standards stipulated by the company.
Tropical Organic Growers meets the highest quality standards and has the most demanding organic and sustainable development certificates on the market, and is proud to be the first Fruit and Vegetable company in Mexico to be certified by Disney.
Rolando Leyton, the founder and CEO of Tropical Organic Growers commented: “We have found in Label Investments the ideal partner to accompany the strong development of Tropical Organic Growers, have a unique experience in the agricultural and of the industry in Mexico and they will support us in achieving our vision: to be the leader of Mexico in the production and commercialization of organic tropical fruit ”.
Alexandre Pierron Darbonne, the founder and CEO of Label Investments commented: “The organic bananas have a penetration of less than 10%, well below that of other categories of fruits and vegetables, something inexplicable when you take into account that the Conventional banana is one of the fruits most treated with pesticides and its production untenable. The consumption of organic bananas is growing at a rate of more than 10% per year and We believe that it has the potential to largely replace conventional bananas in selected markets over the next few years.
Rolo and his team have been able to successfully assemble and develop Tropical Organic Growers from 0 in 2016, something incredible, we are convinced that they are the ideal team to lead that transformation ”.
