Earthenware jars: tradition and modernity come together to produce quality wine
Wine Technology Platform, professional Pedro Ballesteros MW and OeMv are workingtogether to promote research of earthen jars from a classic material to new processing techniques.
Wine Technology Platform (PTV), the Master of Wine Spanish Pedro Ballesteros and the Spanish Wine Market Observatory (OeMv) have signed a collaboration agreement to boost how traditional earthenware jars, typical of Castile La Mancha, can be a magnificent modern element for making quality wines.
The project, in its initial stages, will analyze different experiences that are taking place, both in Spain and in other wine-producing countries in the world with this type of package. As he announced professional Pedro Ballesteros MW during his presentation at the II International Wine Summit, held in Toledo last March, some of the most famous winemakers high international quality are rediscovering the characteristics of a very traditional method such as clay pots, which historically have been used in Castilla-La Mancha. The research project will examine the special characteristics that these deposits offer for wine making and the positive effects of a classic material attached to new production techniques can be derived for high quality wines.
For the launch of this project and as an initial financial contribution to it, the only Master of Wine with which for now has Spain, Pedro Ballesteros, contributes fees received for his role in that Summit, which he attended together with OeMv.
For its part, the Wine Technology Platform is the instrument of Spanish wine sector to promote and develop all R & D that may be of interest to different companies, research centers, institutions and professionals and contribute to the improvement of products, production techniques, processing and marketing of Spanish wine, with special emphasis on the pursuit of quality.
