VI World Congress of Agricultural Engineers
More than 800 agricultural engineers around the world have gathered at the Sixth World Congress of Agricultural Engineers, held in Expo Milan and approved the Universal Charter of the agronomist, which contains a set of ethical principles for professional development, which is summarized in that They are committed more than ever to food and environmental sustainability.
More than 800 agronomists and forestry engineers in the world, including fifty Spanish, participated in the Sixth World Congress of Agricultural Engineers, held in Milan from 14 to 18 September, within the activities planned for the Universal Exhibition Expo 2015.
Under the slogan “Food and Identity”, 6 sessions were organized, with 8 desks each, in total, 48 work sessions from which they have addressed issues such as food security, sustainability and the environment from different points of view.
It has achieved the challenge of producing food for all; the development of new production methods and new technologies so allowed. However, new challenges have emerged: The new local development initiatives, development of agricultural practices for food production and agro-industrial projects have, to a greater or lesser extent, an impact on the environment and local landscapes. Food security, in quantity and quality; saving natural resources (water, soil, etc.), reduction of food waste, better distribution thereof, the design culture and social responsibility, etc. become key issues.
These challenges and the responsibility of the agronomist in achieving these have been reflected in the Universal Charter of the agronomist. It is a document that contains a set of ethical principles for professional development, taking into account the particularities of each community, each country and each continent.
