Ibero-American cooperation in food and nutrition
Research and dissemination of knowledge to improve the quality of life of the population is one of the challenges of the Iberoamerican Nutrition Foundation (FINUT). Through these agreements, it wants to encourage institutional cooperation contributes to the integral development of individuals and the maximum dissemination of knowledge. The collaboration extends to the National University of Cordoba (Argentina), ILSI Mesoamerica (Life Sciences Institute Association), Hygea and Granotec.
With the aim of promoting knowledge, research, development and innovation of Nutrition and Food through international cooperation in the field of Latin America, the Latin American Nutrition Foundation (FINUT) has signed four new collaboration agreements with different entities.
Support the training of human resources, research and disseminate knowledge to improve the quality of life of citizens and foster institutional cooperation, to contribute to the integral development of individuals and the maximum dissemination of knowledge are the challenges of the following conventions.
FINUT has signed agreements with the National University of Cordoba (UNC) and the International Life Sciences Institute Association Mesoamerica (ILSI Mesoamerica, to promote the formation and training of young scientists in Latin America. In this sense, both agreements provide for the organization of congresses, symposia, workshops and expert groups and publications promoting interest in the field of nutrition and food.
Both FINUT as ILSI Mesoamerica, develop leadership programs in the field of Nutrition and Food and will encourage communication and collaboration among Ibero-American scientists in these areas, both public and private sectors.
On the other hand, FINUT collaborate with Hygea, a spin-off of the University of Granada dedicated to research in Medical Nutrition Therapy and new technologies applied to the field of personalized nutrition. This entity is composed of a team of nutritionists, pharmacists, chemists, computer scientists, experts in artificial intelligence, designers, etc.
Hygea team is focused on creating expert systems capable of autonomously generate personalized diets for each individual based on their anthropometric data, goals and preferences. FINUT Hygea will support the analysis, validation and promotion of software to emulate the knowledge of an expert nutritionist, with the aim of offering customized seconds, thousands of people simultaneously diets.
Finally, FINUT begin to collaborate with Granotec in improving the procedures of food technology and the organization of training sessions for its employees and customers. In this sense, FINUT provide services Specific Technology Transfer in certain areas of Science and Technology Granotec.
Thus, both entities will organize training events, draft scientific reports and a manual food fortification. Also, the specialized personnel receive Granotec for measuring formation vitamins and minerals.
According to Professor Angel Gil, president of FINUT, “We are very committed to training and one of our challenges in the medium to long term is to strengthen the skills and knowledge of professionals in the food and nutrition. Therefore, we believe that FINUT must remain constantly promoting active and renewed agreements with prestigious institutions. ”

These agreements are in addition to the 12 signed by FINUT with public entities, mainly universities and research centers in Latin America. In addition, FINUT has actively participated in the organization of the XX International Congress of Nutrition, held in 2013, in Granada.
As part of its commitment to the dissemination of nutrition, FINUT has developed and sponsored the exhibition “Nutrition, vital impulse,” which has had more than 550,000 visitors during its stay in Granada. “In the coming months will be touring several Spanish cities to settle in Buenos Aires, home to the next XXI International Congress of Nutrition in 2017,” says Prof. Angel Gil.
