Animal welfare in farms in Latin America, Portugal and Spain, are in luck

Bayer and World Animal Protection signed an agreement to encourage animal welfare practices on farms of virtually all Latin American countries and the Iberian Peninsula, in total twenty. With five-year strategic agreement aims to improve the quality of life of farm animals in 21 Latin American countries, including Spain and Portugal, and initiate joint programs for pets, wildlife or animals or emergency situation disasters.

 

More than 35,000 farmers, veterinarians and farm workers will now have tools for implementing animal welfare measures on their farms and ranches, through the multiplier effect of this strategic agreement. It is estimated that more than 4 million cattle will benefit from good practices in animal welfare this year.

The countries involved in the agreement are: Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Mexico and Cuba.

World Animal Protection, a worldwide leader in animal welfare, has trained more than 200 employees of the Animal Health Division of Bayer as a result of this agreement. Training includes the implementation of good animal management practices, knowledge of the natural behavior and assessing animal welfare indicators, generating a positive impact on the lives of farm animals.

World Animal Protection is a global non-governmental organization based in London, who for 50 years working for the protection and welfare of animals. With 14 offices worldwide, including in Costa Rica and Brazil, working in more than 50 countries worldwide in four main areas: the welfare of farm animals, animals in disaster situations, animals and animal communities wild. Is the only animal welfare NGO enjoying consultative status with the United Nations. In addition, he is an ally of the OIE (World Organisation for Animal Health) and has representation in European institutions.

Thanks to the training received, Bayer employees act as diffusers of knowledge on welfare as part of their daily activities. These activities include consulting for producers, practical training in the field, conferences and seminars in the 21 countries that are part of this agreement.
