The size of Iberian pig farms in Spain grows 70% from 2011 to 2015
The average size of Iberian pig farms in Spain has grown to 70% between 2011 and 2015, according to the analysis carried out by the Research Institute of the Catalan Autonomous Government (IRTA) of the data obtained from all Iberian pork farms of our country adhered to the BDporc Iberian System. In total, the data of almost 35,000 sows distributed throughout the Spanish geography have been analyzed, which shows that the average number of animals per farm has increased from 439 to 748 during the period mentioned above.

In terms of gestational performance, the birth rate has increased in recent years from 78.29% in 2011 to 83.05% in 2015. Another relevant fact is the numerical productivity, which is measured by the number of pregnancies Piglets weaned by sow and year. According to this study, this figure has also grown from 13.67 piglets per sow to 1st coverage / year to 15.3.
The Iberian BDporc is a tool directed to the Iberian pork sector with the objective of providing reference information and help in decision making, both techniques for the day-to-day management of animals, as well as strategic and global for companies. It is also an observatory of where the productions and the models of exploitation go from real data.
The Iberian Porc d’Or in April 2017 in Zafra
From the data obtained in the Iberian BDPorc the indices that are obtained in the different categories will originate the Porc d’Or Iberian Awards. The delivery gala will be held for the first time next April in Zafra (Badajoz), organized by IRTA with the co-organization of Zoetis, the City of Zafra and ASICI.
