The sector estimates an almond harvest 23% higher than the previous season
According to the second crop estimate, made at the end of June by the National Bureau of Nuts, almond production 2017/18 will be 23% higher than last year and 28% higher than the average of the last five years. Regarding the first estimate of the month of May, there was a fall of 2.1% to 56,513 tons of almond grain.
The National Bureau of Nuts has reviewed the estimation of almond production, resulting in a forecast of 56,513 tons of almond grain, which means an increase of production of 23% more with respect to the harvest of the last season.
Harvest estimation data are maintained in most areas. However, the Bureau reaffirms that the climate that Spain has suffered since mid-February, characterized by the scarcity of rain and the presence of some significant frosts, has led to a decrease in the production estimate given in May. However, the quality and size of the almonds “have remained high”.
The National Bureau of Nuts brings together the voice of producers through the agrarian organizations ASAJA, COAG and UPA, Agro-alimentary Cooperatives of Spain, and the Spanish Association of Producers Organizations of Dry Fruits and Algarrobas (AEOFRUSE).
