The first day of IOM 2017 revolved around new markets, varieties, distribution and marketing
On the first day of the II International Meeting of the Onion Sector, IOM 2017, organized by the Association of Producers of Onion of Castilla-La Mancha, PROCECAM, have presented the main novelties in markets, varieties, distribution and marketing of onion.
This event, which has had a large influx of participants, began with an opening ceremony by the mayor of Albacete, Manuel Serrano, the provincial director of Agriculture, Manuel Miranda, and the president of PROCECAM, Justo Gutiérrez. Next, an analysis of the onion markets was carried out by Alfonso Tarazona, president of the Spanish Association of Onion Growers and Exporters (ACEC) and partner of PROCECAM, and the German expert Dr. Hans-Christoph Behr of Agromarkt Informations-Gessellschaft mbH, who reported on the current situation of the onion market and its prospects for future development.
Next, the main novelties in genetics and varieties were analyzed, with experts like Koen Van der Voort, manager of the Dutch company De Groot in Slot, a partner company of Bejo Ibérica, and Juan Carlos Brevis, a geneticist of the company Bayer in the United States. To finish this block, José Muñoz, from Granada Coating, presented the assistants to the aid system for the development of seed and pildoración, and David de Scals, from FMC, announced the new way to fight diseases that affect to the cultivation through the formulated of Benevia.
In the block destined to the distribution, the expert Jaime Palafox, of Nebrija Business School, and Juan Carlos García, of the certifier SHC, approached the different chains of existent distribution and the needs of alimentary hygiene that demand nowadays
As a final point of this intense day, an export section was developed, where Prado Flores, of the Foreign Promotion Institute of Castilla-La Mancha (IPEX) and Laura Cortés, export specialist of Globalcaja, exposed the needs of foreign trade in onions and the different banking instruments that exist to guarantee the successful completion of operations.
During this day of the 15th, the quality mark “Cebolla de La Mancha” has been presented at the international level, which highlights the onion grown in the main producing region of Spain
This presentation has been accompanied by a promotion campaign in the El Corte Inglés supermarket in this city that is taking place on November 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th, where gift products are being delivered to the customers of this supermarket along with other gifts and a recipe book with some elaborations with this bulb as the main component.
