The Alliance for the Defense of European Agriculture is created
The Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producers’ Organizations of Andalusia, APROA, as a member of Frutas y Hortalizas Europa, EUCOFEL, an organization made up of associations of producers and exporters from different Member States, agreed in Brussels, together with various associations of the community agricultural sector the creation of an Alliance for the Defense of European Agriculture, in order to defend the European production model and that this model is more taken into account in the commercial policy of the EU.
The main objective of the Alliance for the Defense of European Agriculture is to defend and promote the community productive model, both in fruits and vegetables, and in other agricultural sectors, characterized by having the highest levels of quality and food safety.
To this end, it will request the support of the new European Parliament so that the EU’s trade policy is more adapted to the needs of the Community producers and equality of conditions is guaranteed in trade agreements signed with third countries.
The Alliance for the Defense of European Agriculture demands the following:
• That European agriculture is not a bargaining chip in trade agreements with third countries.
• That imported products respect the same production standards as those imposed on European producers, both in conventional and organic agriculture.
• European consumers should have access to transparent information on the differences between EU production models and those of third countries.
