Spain’s fruit exports rebound in June
According to data from the Department of Customs and Special Taxes, processed by the Spanish Federation of Associations of Producers Exporters of Fruits and Vegetables of Spain (Fepex), fruit exports in June 2021 totaled 846,283 tons, a figure that represented an increase of 22% and a value of 962 million euros. According to Fepex, the main increases were led by strawberries with 16,841 tons (+ 54%), and blueberries 22,246 tons (+ 132%).
Added to this were watermelon with 266,597 tons (+ 30%), and stone fruit, with the exception of peach (peach) and apricot, which continue to be affected by the adverse weather conditions suffered in previous months.
Nectarine reached 76,560 tn (+ 13%), plum 15,530 tn (+ 20%) and cherry 24,140 tn with a strong increase (+ 150%) that recovered after the fall suffered in 2020. In the case of In vegetables, exports fell by 4% in volume compared to the same period of the previous year, with 327,234 tons, however, in value it grew by 2% to 329 million euros.
Tomato sales stood at 25,095 tons (+ 8%), with a value of 35.4 million euros (+ 15%), peppers with 38,616 tons (+ 13%) and 57.4 million (+ 8%), carrots with 28,369 tons (+ 27%) and 14.7 million euros (+ 28%), lettuce with 19,281 tons (+ 8%) and 22.3 million euros (+ 31%) and cabbages with 23,083 tons (+ 30%) and 25.9 million (-1%).
