Peru lifts up trade barriers to US beef
The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation establishes specific health requirements mandatory for imports of meat and edible offal chilled or frozen bovine compliance from the United States (US).
In this regard, the issue of the Health Import Permits are available, for which, the National Service of Agrarian Health (Senasa), through the Directorate of Animal Health may take additional sanitary measures to ensure compliance of the rules set forth. According to a directorial resolution published in the journal Legal Standards official gazette El Peruano, it excepts brain, head, spinal cord, thyroid and pituitary.
This measure is taken because the health status changed regarding the disease Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy US Import from the United States meat shall be covered by an export health certificate issued by the Competent Authority Official US.
Among other requirements, the product or its primary packaging must display the official inspection mark Department of Agriculture US (USDA), which identifies the establishment of production and ensures that the product was manufactured
