Open new quota for removal of 500t of plums by the Russian veto
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA) has approved a new quota for the removal of 500 tons of plums, within the exceptional measures against the Russian veto. This new extension is adopted after the first additional quota of 500 tonnes allocated last August 23th has been consumed.
With this measure, adopted under the remaining quota of 2.500 tonnes, it is intended to respond to the demand for representative organizations in the sector, given the market situation that cross certain varieties of this product whose bad situation of prices persists.
To establish this new additional amount is taken into account the views of the sector and the need to preserve a part of the additional quota to meet any needs of products that have not yet entered the campaign.
Extension of exceptional measures
The situation created by the continuity of Russian veto, led to the decision by the European Commission to extend the exceptional support measures for producers of certain fruit and vegetables affected by the closure of that market, by a regulation published last June, in which established for plums, grapes and kiwi, a quota of 1.500 tonnes withdrawal between August 2016 and June 2017. A regulation which also contemplated the possibility that Member States could allocate an additional amount for the recall of up to 3.000 tons.
Since the quota of 1.500 tonnes had already been exhausted and facing the poor price situation affecting certain varieties compared to previous years, the Ministry allocated, last August, a first additional quota of 500 tonnes for plums.
