Koppert, nominated for the Innovation Award in Fruit Logistica, for its envelope format ULTI-MITE SWIRSKI
ULTI-MITE SWIRSKI, the revolutionary envelope format, created by Koppert Biological Systems, designed for the progressive release of the predatory mite Amblyseius swirskii, has been one of the nominees to obtain the Innovation Award in the next edition of Fruit Logistica, the world’s most important fruit and vegetable fair held in Berlin from 7th to 9th February.
ULTI-MITE SWIRSKI is the first envelope with perfect insulation, which makes it unalterable to cold and heat and resistant to low humidity conditions. It produces up to 59% more mites for longer, since the period of departure of the natural enemy lasts 33% more.
ULTI-MITE SWIRSKI is very effective in the biological control of pests such as whitefly, thrips and red spider
The new envelope format offers the farmer for the first time the guarantee that the natural enemies inside are fully protected from the inclement weather. This is possible thanks to the use of an innovative aluminized paper that prevents the outer layer of the envelope from getting soaked with rain or degrade with sunlight. This aluminized paper is 100% biodegradable and compostable, so it is perfectly compatible with organic and biodynamic agriculture.
Active life cycle
The excellent life support conditions that the ULTI-MITE SWIRSKI format offers to the Swirskii colony inside them increase the performance of each envelope, since the natural enemy always lives in optimal humidity conditions to keep its life cycle active. In addition, the inside of the envelope also includes a population of prey mite that serves as food for the Swirskii.
Because of its revolutionary characteristics, ULTI-MITE SWIRSKI is a complex biofactory whose success depends on the balance between the natural enemy and its food, the Carpoglyphus lactis prey mite
Achieving this biological balance has required several years of joint research with the participation of Koppert’s R & D teams in the Netherlands and Almeria. ULTI-MITE SWIRSKI is marketed with an initial content of 250 units of Amblyseius swirskii plus the prey mite.
Participation in Fruit Logistics 2018
The ten selected innovations will be presented from 7 to 9 February 2018 in a special exhibition between rooms 20 and 21 (north side) and in room B City Cube (south side). The lobby between pavilions 20 and 21 is where the winner will be announced on February 9, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. More than 75,000 highly qualified professional visitors from more than 130 countries can cast their vote on February 7 and 8, 2018 for the year’s innovation. A panel of experts composed of representatives from all levels of the fresh produce trade has selected the ten nominees this year, from among more than 60 candidates.
The Fruit Logistics Innovation Award has become the most important prize in the fruit and vegetable sector and in 2018 it will be awarded for thirteenth time
The award supposes a prestigious recognition to the most outstanding innovations of all the chain of production and consumption hortofrutícola, from the production until the point of sale.
Throughout the fair in Berlin, Koppert Biological Systems will show in its stand (hall 1.2, stand D-10) its wide range of novelties for the biological control (natural enemies) and microbiological (beneficial microorganisms) of pests in protected crops and air free. Currently, Koppert Biological Systems is the most important international reference in innovation related to natural products for sustainable agriculture, aimed at keeping pests at bay both in the aerial part of the plant and in the soil and roots.
