Germany accounts for almost half of the contributions made to the public consultation on the CAP
Germany is the EU country most involved in the public consultation process on the CAP, which took place between 2th February and 2th May, with 47% of the almost 323,000 contributions. A fact that has been given to know about the recent trip organized by the Directorate General of Agriculture of the European Commission, with the aim of disseminating among European journalists of Member States the most important aspects of agricultural policy and the fruit and vegetable sector.
This trip consisted of technical sessions on different aspects of the CAP and the specific regime of the fruit and vegetable sector, as well as visits to producers in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Thus, in the section of technical sessions, the Deputy Head of Unit of Directorate C 1 on “Agricultural Policy, Analysis and Perspectives” of the Directorate General of Agriculture of the European Commission, Ricard Ramon and Sumoy explained the basic lines of analysis which the European Commission is doing on the future CAP, as well as the work being carried out by the Commission following the public consultation which took place between 2 February and 2 May and which involved 322,912 contributions.
Most of the responses to the consultation, 97%, have been individual contributions and 93% of those not involved in agriculture. The country with the highest contributions has been Germany, with 46% of the total, followed by France, Italy and Spain.
On the part of Spain, 24,776 responses were sent to the public consultation on the CAP, 7.6% of the total
Two of the heads of DG Agri, Unit G2 “Wine, spirits and vegetables”, Helena Guntiñas and Luc Berlottier, outlined the basic aspects of the CMO and producer organizations, noting that the new Delegate Regulations of the sector, Which entered into force on 1st June, maintain the basic aspects of the system: producer organizations and operational funds, with emphasis on the exceptional measures adopted after the Russian veto, which resulted in the withdrawal of 1.6 million tonnes And a support of 442 million euros.
During this trip, the approval of the new Regulation was announced, which gives continuity to the previous aid on the Russian veto, pending its publication in the Official Gazette
The last of the technical sessions was led by Giullia Medico of DG Agri G, who reported on the new program to promote the consumption of fruit and vegetables and milk in schools, which will be applied to all programs promoting consumption which will take place on August 1st of this year, highlighting the Commission’s interest in promoting consumption due to the continued decline in recent years.
Field visits
In this trip were included visits to Dutch and Belgian fruit and vegetable farms. In Holland, the headquarters of the “ZON fruis and vegetables” producer organization was visited, one of the largest in the European food sector, with 220 members and a turnover of 295 million euros. Headquartered in Venlo, it is organized around three business sectors: the specialized part in marketing and sales, logistics and quality, the part specializing in sales and packaging of fruit and “Fresh Park Venlo” a business park of 130 hectares, Specialized in fresh products and foods, where all activities related to fresh and packaged products are concentrated. A greenhouse was also visited by an associate of this producer organization, Westburg BV, with 14 hectares divided into three greenhouses, mainly dedicated to yellow, red and plum cherry tomatoes, which has important advances such as integrated production control or Cogeneration.
Finally, a family farm in Belgium, Frank Schelfhout, dedicated to the organic cultivation of cauliflower and leek in 10 hectares, was sold. The production was sold in full at the Belorta auction.
On the outreach trip organized by AG-PRESS-eu, the platform of European journalists, under the Directorate-General for Agriculture of the European Commission, also visited the headquarters and the press services, both the Council and the European Parliament. Representatives of 15 Member States attended this trip, with FEPEX participating in Spain.
