Fitó will have the leading technology from Micropep Technologies to research on plant genetic improvement
Seeds Fitó and Micropep Technologies have recently joined forces to collaborate in researching horticultural crops through innovative technologies.
Micropep Technologies uses small, naturally occurring proteins (peptides), typically 10 to 20 amino acids in length, applied directly to plant cells. These peptides temporarily regulate the expression of microRNA which, in turn, orchestrates the expression of the master genes of plant physiology. Potential applications include improving soil-plant interactions, improving yield and weed management.
Everything indicates that this technology has the potential to become a key tool for breeders and farmers in improving the performance of the plant leaving a minimum environmental footprint
According to Eduard Fitó, director of Institutional Relations and Business Development at Seeds Fitó, “this technology has the potential to drastically change the industry for improvement and plant protection. We see broad application potential for this technology to help strengthen our leadership position in the seed industry”.
For his part, Thomas Laurent, Co-founder and CEO of Micropep, has indicated that this collaboration agreement “is an important step for Micropep. The development of our technology is the result of a close collaboration between the scientists of LRSV, SATT Toulouse Tech Transfer and Micropep and we are very pleased with its rapid reception by Semillas Fitó, an important reference of the sector.
About Micropep Technologies
Micropep is a French company that develops a patented disruptive technology that consists of using small natural proteins to manage and temporarily control the genetics of plants
This technology is based on scientific discoveries made in LRSV (Laboratoire de Recherche en Sciences Végétales), a Toulouse academic laboratory leader in plant research, and has been granted a license to Micropep under an exclusive agreement worldwide with the French Office Of Technology Transfer TTT.
