EU: Hogan advocates prioritizing support for young farmers in the new CAP

The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Phil Hogan, has advocated prioritizing support for young farmers in the new CAP, during the debate on the future of Agriculture and Food, which took place on February 12th in Seville with about a hundred citizens. In this event commemorating the 40th anniversary of ASAJA Sevilla, and held in the Palace of Exhibitions and Congresses of Seville (FIBES), the MEP of the group of Socialists and Democrats, Clara Aguilera and the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, Isabel García Tejerina.

During the closing of the day ‘Efficiency in the use of water and use of non-conventional water resources in horticultural crops protected’, held on December 1st by the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training and Fisheries of Andalusia (Ifapa) in La Mojonera, the Andalusian Agriculture Minister, Rodrigo Sánchez Haro, has advanced the implementation of a strategy aimed at optimizing the quality and price of water for irrigation.

With the harvest of the trial field at the ‘La Mata’ farm, in the municipality of Villafranca de Córdoba, Todolivo has started the second and final evaluation phase of its Genetic Improvement Program. This is the most important test of its kind worldwide and one of the most significant that this company has launched. Fruitponic, of the Projar Group, increases the economic value of fruits such as nectarine up to 30%

The semi-hydroponic cultivation technology, Fruitponic, developed by the Projar Group together with the Valencian Institute of Agricultural Research (IVIA) contributes to increase the economic value of fruits in crops such as nectarine up to 30%, according to the results obtained in its tests of research, where there has been a 5% increase in fruit weight, even in situations of deficit irrigation of up to 30%. It is, therefore, a system that is suitable for large producers of fruit trees with poor production or water shortage.
