Fecoam bets for a greener agriculture to improve the environment
The Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of the Region (Fecoam) coordinates a proposal to carry out the project ‘Implementation of Ecological Developments for Sustainable Agriculture’ (IDEAS), which may be financed by the National Rural Development Program of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Magrama) and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (Feader).
The purpose of the project is the development of agro-environmental measures that improve the sustainability of horticultural and fruit crops.
For this, it is intended to promote the implementation of different ecological processes to increase the sustainability of agricultural production, such as the case of biological control of pests or the recovery of biodiversity in Mediterranean landscapes. Thus, the proposal argues that ” the recovery of natural ecological infrastructures would achieve a reduction in the use of artificial products and thus the cost of production “.
In addition, the use of these methods would help to stop soil erosion and optimize the use of phytosanitary products and fertilizers, thus helping to restore environments such as the Mar Menor.
The results of IDEAS will benefit the agricultural and livestock sector and its auxiliary industries, as well as the business research and innovation centers. Other organizations, associations and companies like the Murcian Institute for Agricultural Research and Development and Food (IMIDA), the Surinver cooperative, located in the town of Pilar de la Horadada, also participate in this project.
Together with them, the Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producers’ Organizations of Almería (Coexphal), Agrócila Maresme Segle XXI, Cajamar Foundation and the Association of Southeast Naturalists (ANSE) also collaborate.
The company Intersemillas S.A., the Andalusian Institute for Agricultural Research and Training, Fisheries, Food and Ecological Production (IFAPA) and the Institute for Research and Technology Agroalimentàries (IRTA) are also partners in the IDEAS project.
