Coag demands that the EU defend the black olive before the US attack
Hundreds of members of COAG Andalucía have spoken before the headquarters of the United States Consulate in Seville, headed by the Secretary General, Miguel López; the Provincial Secretary, Ramón García, and the olive manager of Mesa, Antonio Rodríguez.
The mobilization, which has brought together the sector as a whole, has sought to highlight the unjust action of the Trump government against the table olives, by imposing abusive tariffs, which are already having disastrous consequences for exports and for employment directly related to they.
On July 10, the US Trade Commission will decide whether to ratify the arguments of the Californian denouncing companies, and the announced tariff is maintained or modified. On July 24, the decision will be made public.
COAG Andalusia has asked the Ministry of Agriculture, which has positioned itself in favor of the sector, to demand from the European Union the same attitude it has had in relation to tariffs on other products, and to come out forcefully in defense of the olive of a table
The European Union must make an effort to defend its production, since the turn of the US commercial policy that has been evidenced by the imposition of these arbitrary tariffs, not only affects a sector of vital importance for the producing regions (above). everything, in the province of Seville, but also in Cordoba or Malaga and in the neighboring region of Extremadura), but comes to question, indirectly, the entire system of aid from the CAP, although it is fully recognized and accepted by the WTO.
The table olive sector contributes more than 1,300 million euros to final agricultural production and is concentrated mainly in the province of Seville, where it has some 85,000 hectares, which is 70% of the national total.
