Chile: exports of fresh fruit are growing in Asian markets
During the 2014-2015 campaign it has exported 15% more fresh fruit than the same period of the previous previous campaign. The opening ceremony of the Chilean Pavilion at the Fair has been in charge of the commercial attache of ProChile in Hong Kong, Cristian Prado; Asoex president, Ronald Bown; President of the Kiwi Committee, Carlos Cruzat; Executive Director Blueberry Committee, Andrew Armstrong; the manager of the Citrus Committee, Monserrat Valenzuela, and the manager of the Avocado Committee, Juan Enrique Lazo. They have also participated in the event marketing director for Asia and Europe Asoex, Charif Christian Carvajal, and a large group of fruit exporters from Chile.

ASOEX president said that “the Asian market has become very important for our fruit export sector during the recently completed 2014-2015 campaign, sent to this region over 400,000 tons of fresh fruit, which represented an increase of 7.15% over the previous period, all of which demonstrates, on the one hand, the efforts of the industry, and on the other, the interest of Asia for purchasing our products.”
According to statistics Asoex, in 2014-2015, the main destination markets for Chilean fruit in terms of volume were China with 158,558 tonnes; Hong Kong with 89,830 tons, South Korea with 65,351 tons, Taiwan with 51,556 tons, Japan with 29,506 and India with 21,519 tons.
For his part, Director of Marketing ASOEX, Charif Christian Carvajal, said that the field of export fruit carried out at the fair a workshop for importers and distributors in Asia, especially China, which has highlighted the development of the seasons and the promotional activities that are intended to run this new campaign, mainly in blueberries, cherries and avocados.
“The growth we have had exports of Chilean fresh fruit in the world and particularly in Asia, is the result of hard work by international positioning carried out in coordination between the public and private sector, which in this exhibition is represented by the Fruits from Chile brand, image strategy developed by the Chilean fruit sector, together with ProChile,” concluded Bown.
