Argentina: grain harvest will exceed 130Mt despite floods
Argentina’s grain production will exceed 130 million tonnes, despite the latest floods in different parts of the country, particularly in the northwestern regions of Buenos Aires, southern Santa Fe and southeast Córdoba, according to the latest estimates made by the Ministry of Agro-industry of the Republic of Argentina, through the Direction of Agricultural Estimates, under the Agriculture Subsecretary.
This analysis was carried out from the satellite imagery study whereby the Ministry team observed that the strong impact of precipitation that exceeded 200 mm reached a harvest area, whose loss of production will be offset by the high yields of non-affected areas.
According to the actual losses on the latest climatic events, the Ministry, in addition to continuing to evaluate the affected area, is also conducting a forecast that takes into account the quality of harvested and increased costs due to logistical difficulties and harvest.
According to reports made by Agroindustry Agricultural Estimates, since the beginning of the year, the climatic losses of the 2016/2017 season represent a total of one million hectares, of which 750,000 are soybean and 250,000 maize
