Afrucat asks to expand from 30 to 40Mkg the withdrawal quota to recover prices in stone fruit
Afrucat a little important in the harvest of fruit due to the weather and the low fruit set The director general of Afrucat, Manel Simón, and the general director of Food, Quality and Agrifood Industries of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food (DARP) , Carmel Mòdol, together with the director of the Territorial Services of the DARP to Lleida, Ferran de Noguera, have presented the forecasts of harvest of peach and nectarine for Catalonia that indicate an overall decrease of 17% standing at 471,430 tons.
By groups, the round peach will decrease by 13% (114,250 t), the flat peach will decrease by 18% (127,560 t), the nectarine will decrease by 19% (207,310 t) and the pavia will decrease by 12% (22,310t). This productive decline is caused by the confluence of different factors such as the son a sparse, irregular and long flowering followed by a low fruit set. The production will also come down by the frosts of the end of February and March (especially in the early varieties) and the hail of the months of April and May.
In Lleida, a restrictive effect is expected for the early varieties in which Tarragona and in Barcelona the affectation is more general, however, the early varieties are the most affected. Finally, we must bear in mind that the current forecast compares with the 2017 campaign which was characterized by a very high volume thanks to a full production logger. The low setting makes it possible to foresee higher-caliber fruits and the need for thinning has decreased. The campaign is planned about 8-10 days later than last year.
In terms of trends, we can highlight the decrease for the first time of the plantation area by 2% in peaches and nectarines. This descent depends on the species and should be contemplated in its entirety given in all species reconversion variety. For varieties, flat nectarines are those that recede more than the round peach recovers surface.
