Guayaquil prepares the VII International Mango Congress
The Ecuadorian mango will once again be the center of attention this August. Guayaquil will receive for the seventh time the best experts worldwide at the International Congress of Mango, an event that aims to present the latest technological advances in the production of fruit.
Cultivated mainly in the province of Guayas, the Ecuadorian mango stands out for its excellent quality and flavor and has an approximate area of 5,500 hectares registered in full production within the guild dedicated to export. In the 2017-2018 campaign, the country exported 13,685,119 boxes of 4 kilos of mango, 1% more than in the 2016-2017 season. It should be noted that mango economic activity (both harvest and post-harvest) offers jobs to women during the months of September to December of each year, a time when for the agricultural area, the movement of jobs is low.
As part of the promotion of the fruit, the Mango Ecuador Foundation will organize this year the VII Mango International Congress, a benchmark for the international industry and a magnificent meeting point for producers, marketers, importers and scientists.
This edition, which will be held on August 30 and 31 at the Hotel Oro Verde in Guayaquil- “Salón Oro Verde”, brings together 14 leading industry specialists in their respective fields, from countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador, Honduras, Spain, Peru, and the United States.
In the forum will discuss topics such as nutrition, diseases and pests and export growth of fruit (the success of the fruit industry in Chile), the mango market in the United States, among others.
