Domingo Martín Ortega, re-elected president of ASPROCAN
Domingo Martín Ortega, has been re-elected as president of the Association of Organizations of Producers of Bananas of the Canary Islands (ASPROCAN), according to the agreement adopted by the Ordinary General Assembly of the entity, held this morning in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
After his election, Martín Ortega has been grateful for the renewal of the confidence of the representatives of the Assembly at a time that he has defined as key and in which the Canary Islands Banana must face great challenges, both in Spain and in Europe.
The president wanted to emphasize the importance of continuing to work together in the defense of the position of Banana of the Canary Islands in the national market and the opening of foreign markets in the field of commercialization of banana as well as continue adding efforts in obtaining recognition of the needs of the sector in the face of strong competition in banana prices from third countries.
The election took place this morning in the framework of the Assembly, which began with the presence of the President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Water, Narvay Quintero, the Deputy Minister of the Primary Sector , Abel Morales, and the president of the Association of European Producers of Banana and Banana (APEB), Laurent de Meillac.
In his speech, the President of the Government has stressed the importance of preserving the unity of the sector, and wanted to recall that “the banana of the Canary Islands is the benchmark of the common agricultural policy”, so that the institutional work and the sector will be key for the future of it.
On the other hand, during the Ordinary General Assembly the issues of relevance for the Banana of the Canary Islands were analyzed for this year 2018 and the budgets of the Association were approved.
