UPA denounces Aldi for the sale of strawberries under its production costs
The Union of Small Farmers and Ranchers (UPA) is going to report to the supermarket chain Aldi to sabotage the current strawberry campaign through unfair practices such as the illegal sale of strawberries below their cost of production. As they have stated from the organization, “we have caught them underhand. Even now, when the cold wave is pushing up the price of fruit and vegetables, Aldi squeezes the farmers”.
UPA: “With this sale at a loss, Aldi is going to charge the strawberry campaign, which lives a wide territory”
The Union of Small Farmers and Livestock Agencies (UPA) is processing the complaint to the AICA (Food Information and Control Agency) for this illegal practice, which entails an economic loss for farmers. From the organization they trust that the AICA “hurry to stop Aldi, because it is dynamiting the strawberry campaign”.
The offer, which began on 31st January and which Aldi promises to prolong for a week, supposes a banalization of the product, since farmers are receiving more than 3 euros for each kilo of strawberry and the distributor sells at 2 euros per kilo
As explained by the UPA, “the farmers had already requested the brokerage of the Ministry of Agriculture of Andalusia in this case, and Aldi said it would cancel this offer before it left, but the only thing which have been done is withdraw the publicity of its web page”. As criticized from this organization “Aldi seems to laugh at our effort with the slogan that uses,`what is worth, costs very little ‘, when we have a hard time producing food”.
UPA has warned that this campaign of Aldi will produce a called effect between its competitors, since, according to some information, other distribution companies are preparing similar offers
