This has been the sunniest winter after 86 years, so the quality of the fruit is very good. British producers expect sales to reach 453 million euros, 15 percent higher than those recorded last year with 384 million euros.

Warm temperatures during the spring, combined with more sun and cooler evenings, have favored the British strawberry has more sweetness and be of better quality. However, producers still cautious, because if the rains persist, there is high probability of disease in the fruit, although it may be the possibility of frost, Lincolnshire Echo publishes the digital edition.

The summer fruit sector in the UK predicts that the volume of production will be 76,000 tons this year, up 19 percent from the previous year when 64,000 tons were recorded. In the last five years, strawberry production in the UK has increased by 36 percent.

The president of the organization British Summer Fruits, Laurence Olins, said that sales of local strawberry reveal a strong expansion within the ‘berries’, growth that respond to growing consumer demand sector.
