The production of olive oil in CLM is foreseen 10% lower than the present campaign
Castilla-La Mancha agri-food cooperatives estimates a decrease of olive oil production in this autonomous community of 10% compared to this campaign.
According to Gregorio Gómez, the olive oil spokesman for Cooperativas, during the Olive Oil Sector Assembly of this organization, “although it is too early to give forecasts, it is estimated that the next season will be 10% less than production that in the current campaign, in which they have obtained 114,000 tons of oil“. However, the spokesman stresses that “we are at the expense of the weather, which is being very atypical; If drought persists there will be less olive and if it rains, which is what we all want, production would increase“.
Despite these forecasts, the cooperatives are optimistic and consider that the campaign “is being good”, in addition to the considerable increase in exports, “sales outside our country are increasing non-stop,” says Gregorio Gómez, “especially in the United States, plus the increase in household consumption”.
This increase in exports and consumption in the household is probably due to the current situation of the market, which is much more dynamic, and to the promotion of the consumption of extra virgin olive oil, an essential ingredient in the Mediterranean diet and in any healthy dish; this the consumer knows and for this reason he buys more this quality product “.
The meeting was attended by the deputy director of Agri-food Cooperatives, Juan Miguel del Real, the technician of the organization, María Ángeles Fernández, Álvaro González de Coloma, director of the Patrimonio Comunal Olivarero Foundation, and Iñaki Benito, technician of Agri-food Cooperatives of Spain.
