The organization of the 9th Congress of Spanish Denominations of Origin will fall on the Jabugo PDO
The organization of the 9th Congress and General Assembly of the Spanish Association of Denominations of Origin (ORIGEN ESPAÑA), to be held next year, will be the responsibility of the DOP Jabugo. This event, which recently held its last edition in San Sebastián, run by the DOP Idiazabal, represents the ideal meeting place for all the agro-food sector of differentiated quality, bringing together a large number of Protected Designations of Origin (PDOs) and Protected Geographical Indications (PGI).
The next edition of the ORIGEN SPAIN Congress is a unique opportunity for the Jabugo Protected Designation of Origin, which will bring together the main Spanish agronomic PDOs and PGIs in the surroundings of the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park, whose dehesas are declared Reserve Of the Biosphere by UNESCO.
Origin Spain has supported, from the outset, the process of changing the name of the PDO Jamón de Huelva by DOP Jabugo, and the power to celebrate this Congress supposes a very important institutional support to said PDO
The DOP Jamón de Huelva occupies one of the vice-presidencies of ORIGEN ESPAÑA that is integrated by 48 DOP and IGP. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment, the representativeness of the ORIGEN ESPAÑA Association, in terms of the economic value of all National Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications, is 64.5%.
2017 will definitely be the year of consolidation of the DOP Jabugo, and with this Congress, the European protection figures will be strengthened and put in value, will be analyzed topics of interest and will be concretized projects that will benefit these figures of European protection.

Created in March 2008, the Spanish Association of Appellations of Origin (ORIGEN ESPAÑA) was born out of the common concern of a group of agri-food producers for promoting recognition of the essential role of Protected Designations of Origin (PDOs) and Protected Geographical Indications (PGIs), more generally known in Spain as “appellations of origin”.
Aware of the abuses that these unique products suffer repeatedly and indiscriminately to the detriment of the effort of those who work every day to achieve a unique quality, tradition, prestige and reputation, PDO and PGI producers launch this organization in order to join their Voices in a valid interlocutor to call for a better and more effective protection of PDOs and PGIs at all levels.
